Book Discussions
brought to you by

ELCA
Communication Services

How often do you get to discuss a book with its author in a group setting?   LutherLink book discussions give you and your congregation members that opportunity!

Each discussion will follow a similar pattern: a discussion area opened toward the beginning of one month, with information about how to order the book. During the following month group participants and the author(s) will post questions, comments, background and new observations as appropriate.  Posts can be made via the Web, or you can participate completely via e-mail.  Follow the appropriate link below to sign up for the discussion(s) that interest you.

A Moving Word: Media Art in Worship
by Eileen D. Crowley

The graceful and grace-filled use of today's media and media arts in ELCA worship poses many challenges for local pastors and congregations. Eileen Crowley, assistant professor of Word and Worship at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago,  cautions that the use of audiovisual elements in worship requires careful consideration.  This book is filled with wisdom and practical examples of the use of art in worship, from simple Taize services using candles and silence through video projections on big screens.  Scott Weidler, ELCA associate director for worship and music, says:  "Through a process Crowley calls Communal Co-creation we are led to discover possibilities for media art helping people to pray and to encounter the divine.  This small book is a valuable contribution to the conversation of how to plan authentic liturgy, grounded solidly in tradition, yet connected with contemporary cultural concerns and possibilities."
